Literacy Buffalo Niagara

Description:

Our Adult Literacy Tutoring Program assists adults, ages 18+, to develop their English and reading skills. We provide services throughout Erie and Niagara counties. Our English Language Learner Program focuses on developing listening and speaking skills in English while our Basic Literacy Learner Program focuses on developing reading and writing skills. Students are assigned to an individual volunteer tutor who is trained and supported by the Agency. Tutoring pairs are required to meet for 2 hours per week at a public location for one year. Students are required to do daily homework in order to best advance their skills. Individuals interested in learning more about the program may contact our main office.

Our volunteers share our belief that everyone in Erie and Niagara Counties deserves to be literate!

The LBN volunteer program is very different than other volunteer programs. It takes commitment, dedication, communication, and consistency. It is an ongoing commitment that takes time and intention. Prior to applying to become a Literacy Tutor please review the requirements of becoming a tutor to ensure you are truly able to make the full commitment.
